The Netherlands is allocating 400 million euros for the production and purchase of drones for Ukraine. This was announced by the Dutch Minister of Defense Ruben Brekelmans during his visit to Ukraine.
Mr. Brekelmans explained that half of the drones will be manufactured in the Netherlands, while the rest will be produced in Ukraine and other countries. He did not specify which countries. Accordingly, the funds will be distributed in the same way, in percentage terms, between the countries that produce the drones. Specifically, the money will go to specific companies. Brekelmans said that these drones can be used for various purposes: reconnaissance, defense, and attack. Especially in the air, but also on land and at sea.
He added that the drones are currently in high demand because they are important for Ukraine’s air defense and are also valuable offensively.
If the developed drones prove to be successful, additional funds will be allocated to expand production, Brekelmans emphasized.
As a reminder, the Netherlands has played a “pioneering role” in supplying Ukraine with F-16 aircraft and Patriot systems.
