Canada is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia due to the illegal deportation of Ukrainians

In a world where international relations are shaped not only by political but also humanitarian aspects, Canada has once again stepped up to defend Ukraine. Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced plans to introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia due to its illegal actions related to the deportation of Ukrainians from temporarily occupied territories.

This statement came after the conclusion of a conference dedicated to the Ukrainian Peace Formula held in Montreal. According to Joly, Canada is not turning a blind eye to the ongoing human rights violations in Ukraine. She emphasized that the new sanctions will focus on issues related to deported individuals, particularly children. “Yesterday, a U.S. representative announced new sanctions against Russia primarily concerning deported children. We are currently coordinating our sanctions with the U.S. and the European Union,” Joly noted. Canada has long been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty. Since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, the country has imposed sanctions on over 300 individuals and entities that have contributed to violations of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

These measures are part of a broader strategy aimed at exerting maximum pressure on Russia, which continues its aggression in Ukraine. The Montreal conference, where Canada announced its intentions, gathered representatives from around 70 countries, highlighting global support for Ukraine. The main aim of the event was to discuss the fourth point of the Ukrainian Peace Formula—the release of prisoners and deported individuals. This issue is particularly relevant, as millions of Ukrainians have lost their homes, and thousands of children have been forcibly taken from their families.

As an active participant in the international community, Canada will continue to work alongside its allies to apply pressure on Russia and support Ukraine in its fight for justice. This is not only a political issue but also a matter of humanity, as every illegally deported Ukrainian is a person with their own story and fate. In summary, it can be said that Canada is confidently maintaining its course of support for Ukraine, and the new package of sanctions will be another step towards restoring justice and protecting human rights. All countries that share these values must unite their efforts to counter aggression and ensure peace in Ukraine.
