According to Ambassador-at-Large of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Public Diplomacy in 2020-2023 Baiba Braže, the West should strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation, closely monitor the process of their implementation, and prevent the rogue state from circumventing restrictions imposed on it.
Baiba Braže made the aforementioned statement during the 16th annual Kyiv Security Forum. She added that the Western countries should undermine the capability of the pariah state to evade sanctions, and this process implies the imposition of new sanctions. The Western partners should cooperate through the US Department of Treasury and the EU institutions to find the loopholes used by Russia to import the needed elements and parts.
The Russian Federation still circumvents the sanctions imposed by the US and the EU. These illegal activities allow the rogue state to strengthen its military-industrial complex, providing the Russian Armed Forces with capabilities to kill innocent Ukrainian civilians. That is why the West should do its best to deprive Russia of the necessary dual-use goods provided by its partners in crime.
