Austrian Foreign Minister: sanctions against Russia are becoming more effective every day

President Vladimir Putin’s conditioning the resumption of gas supply on the easing of sanctions is a clear proof that the sanctions are working.

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said so in an interview with Wiener Zeitung.

“The sanctions are becoming more effective every day. Entire sectors of the Russian economy are idle, Russia is sliding into recession, while growth is still predicted for Europe. In the EU, we are sometimes the world champions of belittling and pessimism, but in this case there is really no reason for that,” Schallenberg said.

He expressed hope that at some point it would be possible to return to diplomacy to end the war, but right now, according to the minister, there is still a long way to go.
