U.S. President Joe Biden has urged Congress to allocate an additional $24 billion to strengthen military support for Ukraine, reports the New York Post.
To prevent funding halts by the next presidential administration, the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposed including this financial aid in the decision package.
The White House has allocated 8 billion dollars out of the total 24 billion dollars to finance contracts with American companies for weapon supply to Ukraine. The White House plans to restock the American military arsenal with another 16 billion dollars.
Some Republicans have already expressed their disagreement with this step, criticizing the request.
“Joe Biden just gave away 4.7 billion in your taxpayer dollars by unilaterally “forgiving” loans to Ukraine. Congress must not give him a free gift to further sabotage President Trump’s peace negotiations on the way out the door.” Senator Mike Lee from Utah posted a message on the social network X.
