In response to the petition of populists with appeals for ‘peace talks’ with Russia, pro-Ukrainian parties in Germany are gathering signatures against ‘peace talks’ on unfavorable conditions for Ukraine.

The leaders of the Christian Democratic Union of Youth (CDUY) and the Free Democratic Party (FDP), Johannes Winkel and Franziska Brandmann created an appeal for support of Ukraine dedicated to the first Anniversary of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

They were prompted by similar campaigns by pro-Russian populists, who publish open letters in support of dubious “peace initiatives” and against the supply of arms.

“There are people in our country who are now calling to stop arms supply. They emphasize that they demand this because they are committed to peace. They pretend that they are acting out of mercy towards Ukrainians. (…) All this is wrong,” the authors emphasize.

The appeal has already been signed by the head of the defense committee of the Bundestag Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, the head of the committee on European affairs Anton Hofreiter, the head of the CDU Mario Chaya and many other influential politicians.
