The renowned Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra has pledged to lend a hand to the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, offering support in coordinating their upcoming musical performances and acquiring new musical instruments, this is reported by DW.
It is about the organization of performance opportunities and the purchase of musical instruments. In 2022, musicians from Ukraine have already performed at the Berlin Philharmonic at the invitation of the Philharmonic Orchestra Foundation. This contributed to regular contacts and the desire for closer cooperation.
“We would like to show solidarity with Ukrainian musicians who, under terrible circumstances, are trying to preserve musical life in Ukraine,” said Eva-Maria Tomasi, a representative of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra “acts as an important ambassador of its country” by giving concerts outside of Ukraine, Tomasi added.
The Youth Orchestras of Germany and Ukraine are old friends
The Director of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Foundation, Andrea Zietzschmann, especially emphasized the importance of further creative activity of Ukrainian musicians. The Federal Youth Orchestra of Germany has been cooperating with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine since 2017, so helping this collective is a logical step for Berlin, she added.
In her turn, the head of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine Aleksandra Zaitseva thanked the German side for their support. The new program is not only “a symbol of clear support for our Motherland”, but also essential for Kyiv from a practical point of view because it offers the prospect of close exchange, Zaitseva emphasized.
