Lukashenko is attempting to drag the Belarusian people into the war against Ukraine

As a result of events unfolding in the Kursk region, Lukashenko is preparing provocations on the border with Ukraine to potentially divert the attention of Ukraine’s Defense Forces and relieve pressure on other fronts, as Putin continues to pressure Belarus.

As previously stated, Belarus will establish an operational command for its troops in the southern direction, which is on the border with Ukraine. Lukashenko explained the motives for this decision by citing a supposed threat from Ukraine. According to him, besides the fronts with Lithuania and Poland, a new southern front has opened.

“The Minister of Defense proposed creating a new command in the southern direction. This was last year… But now it is necessary to urgently establish this operational command, alongside the western and northwestern commands, there will be a southern wing,” the regime leader stated.

Lukashenko noted that new units should already be deployed to the southern border, even before the creation of the new operational command, so that Belarusian troops can gain experience.

In Lukashenko’s view, Belarus is a “target of pressure” from the West, particularly for geopolitical reasons.

“They (the West) have not yet abandoned their goal of leveling the front so that it runs: Smolensk-Pskov, Smolensk-Bryansk-Kursk, and then to Rostov. They need to level the front. And we, almost a thousand kilometers, this balcony, it needs to be cut off,” the dictator believes.

Such precise enumeration of objects that “cannot” be struck (which we were not planning to), likely indicates that provocations may be prepared there with the aim of accusing Ukraine and dragging Belarus into the war.

Previously, in January 2022, in an address to the people and parliament of Belarus, Lukashenko promised to provide military support to Russia if its territory was subjected to aggression.

Lukashenko also claims that it is important for the West to “drown the Russian-Ukrainian brotherhood, our Slavic brotherhood, in blood.”

The dictator wishes to drag the Belarusian people into the war, against their national interests, which could lead Belarus to disaster.
