‘Otherwise, you will have to learn Russian”: M. Rutte warned about some EU countries unwilling to increase defence spending.
“If we don’t do it, we are safe now but not in four or five years,” NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte Says. “So, if you don’t do it, get out your Russian-language courses or go to New Zealand.”
Rutte reaffirmed his demand that Europe drastically increase its defense budget, claiming that the alliance’s 2 percent GDP threshold is “not nearly enough” to counter Moscow’s threat.
Ukraine cannot “at this moment negotiate from a position of strength,” Rutte said. “We have to do more to make sure by changing the trajectory of the conflict that they can get to that position of strength.”
“We all want this war to end, but above all, we want peace to last,” Rutte said. “Peace will not last if Putin gets his way in Ukraine because then he will press ahead.”
After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Poland doubled its defence spending
