According to EU spokesman Peter Stano at the daily briefing in Brussels, the European Union has responded to the surge in Russian attacks on civilian ships transporting Ukrainian grain by urging Moscow to stop these activities.
He specifically said that ballistic missiles recently struck civilian ships bringing Ukrainian grain from Panama, Palau, and Saint Kitts and Nevis; last month, Russia destroyed a ship transporting grain to Egypt, and before that, a vessel from Turkey.
At the same time, Russia continues to demolish Ukrainian grain storage facilities and port infrastructure via daily strikes, as well as stealing Ukrainian grain.
“All these actions are a flagrant violation of international law and must be stopped immediately.” This demonstrates Russia’s determination to continue using food as a weapon, endangering millions of people, not in Ukraine or Europe, but in Asia and Africa.
“And this is Putin’s response to those who say that peace with Putin is possible,” added the EU spokeswoman.
Meanwhile, Zelensky discussed approval for deep attacks inside the Russian Federation with Western weaponry with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and British Prime Minister Starmer.
Rutte indicated that Ukraine has the legal authority to deploy weapons against Russian targets if they constitute a danger to the country. However, in the end, it is up to each ally to make their own choice.
Earlier, at the end of September, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy declared that he would make a decision before the start of winter to ease restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western long-range missiles against military targets on Russian territory.
The European Union urges all nations to condemn Russia’s unlawful assault against Ukraine, as well as its attacks on freedom of navigation and global food security.
