«Putin is not interested in peace», NATO Secretary General does not believe Kremlin’s readiness for peace talks on Ukraine

NATO Secretary General believes that Russia’s calculation on coercing Ukraine to peace is wrong and is convinced that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is not interested in peace.

Mark Rutte stated this before the start of the Alliance’s ministerial meeting in Brussels.

Rutte pointed out that NATO does not see any signs of Putin preparing for any truce.

“There is no sign of any de-escalation of Russian aggression. On the contrary, Putin is intensifying his rhetoric and reckless actions. He is using Ukraine as a test site for experimental missiles and has sent North Korean soldiers to fight in this illegal war,” he said.

The Secretary General underlined the fact that that Putin “is not interested in peace”.

“He thinks he can overcome Ukraine’s resistance and determination, as well as our support. But he is wrong!” Rutte added, having emphasized the fact that helping Ukraine defend itself is ”NATO’s duty.” “That is why we must continue our unwavering support,” Rutte concluded.

On the eve of the meeting in Brussels, Ukraine stated its refusal to accept the security guarantees that are substitutes for NATO membership.
