On Christmas Night, Russian dictator Putin ordered a combined attack on Ukraine’s energy facilities. The attack used missiles of various types – air-, land-, and sea-based. As well as Shahed and other types of attack drones. The purpose of this attack is to destroy power generating stations so that people will be left without electricity on Christmas Night and in the cold at low winter temperatures. This is how the Kremlin leader wants to break the will of people to resist. Putin wants Ukrainians to stop fighting for their independence.
The free world reacted to this inhuman cruelty in a united manner. U.S. President Joe Biden said, “In the early hours of Christmas, Russia launched waves of missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. The goal of this outrageous attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people’s access to heat and electricity in the winter and jeopardize the security of the energy system. In recent months, the United States has provided hundreds of air defense missiles to Ukraine, with more on the way. The United States and the international community must continue to support Ukraine until it defeats Russian aggression.”
Trump’s special representative for Russia and Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg, also condemned the attack on Christmas Night. He noted – “Christmas should be a time of peace, yet Ukraine was brutally attacked on Christmas Day. Launching large-scale missile and drone attacks on the day of the Lord’s birth is wrong.”
A number of European countries such as Lithuania, Estonia, and the Netherlands condemned Putin’s aggressive actions.
In particular, Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp said: “This malicious timing shows that Putin is not interested in peace, only in the destruction of Ukraine. In 2025, we will remain committed to stop this cruel aggression”.
