Russian War Crimes in Ukraine: Update as of 25 May

For three months and one day in a row, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people have been resisting new and new attacks by the Russian occupiers in various directions. Ukraine appreciates all the assistance provided by international partners. The Russian occupiers are using methods that violate the rules of war. They attack civilian infrastructure, killing and injuring civilians, including children, and make actions that can have regional and international consequences. We have prepared an update of such actions of the occupiers as of the morning of May 25.

Donetsk Region

On May 24 the Russian troops shelled the civilian quarters of Bakhmut, Mykolaivka, Sloviansk, Raihorodok, Lyman, Toretsk, Zalizne, Kalynove, and Avdiivka. According to the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko, at least 12 people were killed and 10 were injured due to those attacks.

The advisor to the Mariupol Mayor Petro Andrushchenko informed that the Mariupol City Council assess the number of the city residents killed by the Russian troops as least at 22 thousand people. Also, he reported that the new “filtration camp” for the local population started its work in Mariupol. In total, 12 “filtration camps” were established by the Russian invaders in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk Region.

Luhansk Region

According to the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhiy Haidai, on May 24 the Russian invaders fired with artillery at the civilian infrastructure in Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Novodruzhesk, Vrubivka, Komyshuvakha, Zolote, Toshkivka, Katerynivka, Nyrkove, Hirske. At least 6 people were killed and 8 were injured in Severodonetsk, most of them – near bomb shelters.

Dnipro Region

The head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Valentyn Reznichenko reported, that on May 24 the Russian invaders launched three missiles at Kryvyi Rih. The industrial facility was damaged, and information on casualties is being clarified. Also, the Russian troops shelled Apostolove and Shyroke Communities with the multiple launch rocket systems Uragan. There were no casualties, but Apostolove faced a lack of electricity due to those attacks.

Zaporizhzhia Region

According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Council, in the night of May 24-25 the Russian invaders launched four cruise missiles at Zaporizhzhia. One of them was shot down by our air defense. The other three attacked two districts of the city, targeting civilian facilities in the Shevchenkivskyi district and a shopping center in the Oleksandrivskyi district. At least 62 homes were damaged. At least 1 civilian was killed and 3 were injured.

The Russian troops also continued shelling the civilian infrastructure of Huliaipole. As a result of Russian artillery attacks, farm buildings, warehouses and the elevator were damaged.

Kherson Region

According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, on May 24 the Russian troops continued shelling the civilian infrastructure of Vysokopillia and Potiomkine. There were no casualties, but several residential houses were damaged. Several settlements in Vysokopillia Community are under temporarily control or under the constant fire of the Russian occupiers. The Russian troops do not create conditions for evacuation of the civilian population from there.

Mykolaiv Region

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Hanna Zamazeeva reported, that on May 24 the Russian invaders shelled several settlements in Mykolaiv Region. At least 4 civilians were injured.
