With the onset of Russian aggression in Ukraine in 2022, global attention has been focused not only on Russian forces but also on their allies. In this context, special attention should be paid to the Belarusian corps, which, despite its formal national affiliation, effectively operates as an occupying force under Russian command.
It is important to emphasize that true Belarusian patriots are fighting on the side of Ukraine, while the Belarusian army consists of collaborators acting in the interests of the Kremlin.
Independent actions by Lukashenko’s army against Ukraine or NATO countries are excluded. This structure is considered an additional resource for the Russian army rather than an independent combat unit.
Joint actions with Russian troops secure its role as an auxiliary unit, reinforced by measures to increase combat and mobilization readiness since April 2022. These measures suggest a potential doubling of the corps’ combat capabilities, though still subordinate to the overall strategy of the Russian army.
The constant presence of Belarusian special forces near the Ukrainian borders indicates systematic attempts to probe for weaknesses and opportunities in Ukraine’s defense. These actions are seen as part of the broader front against Russia, which has occupied Belarus.
As of now, despite the activity of sabotage units, there are no signs of preparations to open a new front from Belarusian territory. This allows Ukrainian military planners to focus on more pressing threats, while keeping the Belarusian front under constant surveillance.
Ukraine is aware of the potential threat from Belarus and is prepared to respond appropriately in the event of aggressive actions from this direction.
