President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi has announced the detention of Viktor Medvedchuk, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, leader, and founder of the pro-Russian political party. We will tell you who he is.
Medvedchuk was the curator of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Russian President Vladimir Putin is the godfather of Medvedchuk’s daughter. It was through Medvedchuk that billions of dollars were spent on the creation of pro-Russian political forces in Ukraine, as well as on the creation of several propaganda news channels that worked under the direction of the FSB.
Medvedchuk, like Putin in the Soviet era, worked for the KGB. He became famous when he was a lawyer for Vasyl Stus, a Ukrainian poet, dissident, and fighter against the Soviet regime. As a lawyer, Medvedchuk prosecuted his subordinate, who was eventually sentenced to prison, where he and he were killed.
In the 1990s he became a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada in the pro-Russian party. In 2002 he became the head of the administration of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. He was responsible for bringing Viktor Yanukovych to power, but as a result of the “Orange Revolution”, Viktor Yushchenko won. Then, in 2005, he resigned and retired from politics.
Until 2014, he was relatively in the shadows, although he led several pro-Russian information campaigns for Ukraine’s accession to the Customs Union (unification of Russia and its satellite countries) and against European integration. After the revolution in 2014, he became the chief financier of Russian political forces and television channels.
He received funding from the sale of Russian oil. Formally, he is the owner of the Novoshakhtinsk Petroleum Products Plant.
At the same time, Medvedchuk cooperated with the pseudo-republics of the DPR and LPR.
In 2021, Medvedchuk was accused of treason. He was placed under house arrest. However, before the full-scale invasion began, he fled and was wanted. He was expected to be abroad, but on April 12 he was detained by Ukrainian security services.
Medvedchuk’s story is the story of a typical agent of the occupying country. For years, he received all the necessary resources from Russia to create comfortable conditions for the Russian invasion. But from the first days of the invasion, the Ukrainian people showed a clear patriotic position and defended national interests.
