Israeli microelectronics in Russian drones

The sanctions policy, which is currently being actively discussed in the context of Russian aggression, should apply to all countries on the continent. Russia finds “vulnerable spots” in the economies and politics of specific states, trying to weaken the unity of Europe. This is not only a threat to Ukraine but also to all European countries that value peace and stability.

Although many sanctions have been imposed, Russia continues to produce drones and improve its application tactics. One of the developments presented by the Kalashnikov Concern showcases the capabilities of Russian engineers. They demonstrated a model of a portable remote observation and retransmission complex called “Granat-4-E” in Izhevsk. It includes a drone and a mobile control point based on a KAMAZ truck with a van body. It is noted that the military version of the product, “Granat-4,” has been tested in the area of the special operation. The drone was used for target designation during the destruction of various objects, including the American-made M1A1 Abrams tank.

Interestingly, among the debris of the “Granat” drone, Ukrainian engineers found components from an Israeli manufacturer. The company CONTROP manufactures modules for controlled cameras for drones and attack helicopters. These are not available in the open market. Sales are conducted through official distributors.

Israel strictly controls the sale of weapons and other electronics, but European and other companies involved in the procurement and sale of dual-use goods violate principles of integrity. The EU and intelligence agencies have repeatedly uncovered recruited citizens from EU countries who worked in the interests of Russia.Unsurprisingly, some of them are descendants of the Russian diaspora following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

As is known, Israel can conduct cyber operations and identify malicious actors outside its borders. The discovery of these components enables an investigation to uncover networks of key individuals who assist Russia. This would strengthen the efforts of allied countries to find new solutions to enhance sanctions and isolate Russia as a whole.
