Starmer – Russia threatens global food security

Russia’s attacks in the Black Sea threaten global food security, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said.

“Russia’s escalating attacks on Ukraine’s Black Sea ports are delaying vital aid from reaching Palestinians and preventing the delivery of crucial grain supplies to the Global South,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said late on Tuesday.

“Russia’s strikes on ports in the Black Sea underscore that Putin is prepared to stake global food security in his attempts to force Ukraine into submission,” Starmer said in a statement released by his press service.

According to British intelligence, at least four merchant ships in the Black Sea were hit by Russian attacks between October 5 and 14.

Russian attacks also delayed the departure of a ship carrying oil for the World Food Program in Palestine. In addition, ships carrying grain for Egypt and other World Food Program cargo bound for South Africa were unable to depart on time.

As you know, over the past three months, Russia has carried out 60 attacks on ports, civilian vessels and grain storage facilities in Ukraine. As a result, nearly 300 port infrastructure facilities, 177 vehicles, and 22 civilian vessels were damaged or destroyed.

In particular, on the evening of October 9, the Russian army launched a missile attack on the port infrastructure of Odesa region. As a result, a civilian ship flying the Panamanian flag was damaged. And the air defense systems provided to Ukraine are not yet enough to cover all strategic facilities.

The European Union called on interested countries to put pressure on Moscow to stop shelling grain ships.

The United Nations, under the chairmanship of a citizen of Guterres, does not condemn the actions of dictator Putin, does not demand an end to the shelling of civilian ships, but only calls this increase in strikes “alarming.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer continues, “Putin is harming millions of vulnerable people in Africa, Asia and the Middle East as he tries to win his barbaric war.”
