During his visit to Oslo, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that Norway would finance the production of Ukrainian weapons and equipment, and also spoke about a new format of cooperation.
According to the head of the Ukrainian defense ministry, during his visit to Oslo, he agreed with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram that Norway would join the Danish support format. Thanks to the Danish format, which provides direct financing to producers, Ukraine has already received 50 million euros. These funds were used to finance the production of Bohdan self-propelled artillery systems for the Armed Forces, several dozen of which have already been delivered to the Armed Forces.
The Minister of Defense noted that this format is a direct financing of production in Ukraine, which will allow for faster production and supply of the necessary weapons for the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The press release does not specify what kind of weapons.
In addition, according to Umerov, during his visit, the ministers discussed a new format of cooperation – the “Norwegian model”.
“We are talking about a new model of investing in Ukrainian defense technology companies. More details later.”
EU countries are increasingly inclined to believe that direct funding of the Ukrainian defense industry allows for efficient and rapid production of the necessary equipment and weapons. Discussions on the Danish format are ongoing with several countries, and new press releases are likely shortly. It is the integrated approach of direct Western arms supplies and independent production of equipment and ammunition that will allow Ukraine to arm new units and conduct effective defense against Russia’s daily aggression.
