The government of Japan contemplates on strengthening restrictions on Russia and North Korea because these two states boost their military connections for the purpose of fighting against Ukraine. Such cooperation jeopardizes stability and peace of the Indo-Pacific region and Europe, violating international law.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Iwaya Takeshi has recently stated that the participation of soldiers of North Korea in combat operations led by Russia in Ukraine is one of the greatest concerns for Japan. That is why government officials of Japan contemplate on taking specific measures, for example, asset freezing for both the Russian Federation and North Korea, and coordinate with the G7 states to resolve these issues.
Notwithstanding the sanctions against North Korea and Russia considered by Japan, it is critical for the US and the EU to take decisive measures to prevent the Russian Federation and its ally from continuing waging a war against Ukraine.
