Recent bomb threats targeting hundreds of schools in the Czech Republic and Slovakia were orchestrated by Russia, stated Michal Koudelka, head of the Czech intelligence service, during parliamentary hearings on Russian sabotage activities in Europe. Source: Politico
“We are witnessing a … globalization of evil,” the intelligence chief noted.
In early September, hundreds of educational institutions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia received messages warning of planted explosives, forcing schools to suspend classes for several days. Police inspected the buildings but found no explosive devices.
Koudelka condemned these attacks, emphasizing that Czech educational institutions have become targets of cyber threats.
“Operations in cyberspace are also related to direct attacks on entities in our country … for example, the September threatening emails about the placement of explosives targeting a number of schools in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, behind which there is also a clearly visible Russian trace,” he said.
“We are witnessing a kind of globalization of evil, where the countries of the axis of evil — Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea — support, complement, and help each other achieve their goals. We are therefore witnessing a phenomenon that is very serious and dangerous,” Koudelka added.
It is worth noting that Europe is currently experiencing an active sabotage campaign organized by Russia as part of Vladimir Putin’s growing efforts to undermine Western support for Ukraine. U.S. and European officials have reported attempts to damage railways, military bases, and other facilities used to supply weapons to Ukraine.
Here are some examples of sabotage operations organized by Moscow:
– Migrants from Middle Eastern and African countries are effectively sent to storm the borders of EU countries.
– Russian military aircraft violate the airspace of Finland and Sweden, though only by a few kilometers.
– GPS signals are being jammed in the Baltic region, disrupting the navigation of airliners.
– Provocative attempts are made to challenge state borderlines.
– Agents are being recruited, including from criminal elements, to conduct sabotage (the highest number of such arrests has been made in Poland).
– An assassination attempt was prepared against Armin Papperger, the CEO of Germany’s largest defense company, Rheinmetall.
A notable event involved the ignition of parcels at DHL warehouses in Leipzig and Birmingham. According to Western intelligence agencies, Russian spies were testing the possibility of starting fires aboard transatlantic flights using such methods.
