The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine has informed the IAEA about all the circumstances of the night attack by Russia on the shelter arch of the 4th power unit of the Chornobyl NPP and called for all international efforts to be intensified to force Russia to stop terrorist attacks on nuclear facilities.
The shelter arch suffered significant damage when a Russian strike drone hit it. All relevant services are working on site. At this time, the radiation background has not changed; measurements of changes in the radiation background are constantly being carried out.
Given the seriousness of this situation, Ukraine emphasizes that Russian attacks on critical energy infrastructure, especially on nuclear facilities, are absolutely unacceptable. Any violation of the integrity of protective barriers, power supply systems, or monitoring equipment could have serious consequences not only for Ukraine but also for the entire region.
“Ukraine calls for urgent intensification of the efforts of the international community to counter the unprecedented act of Russian nuclear terrorism. The attack on the Shelter Arch of the 4th power unit of the Chornobyl NPP poses a threat to the entire continent,” said Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
