Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said her country wants to play a real role in supporting peace in the Ukraine war. According to the head of Canada’s diplomatic service, Ottawa is eager to join negotiations to end the war in Ukraine after US President Donald Trump’s administration said that Kyiv may not become a member of NATO.
The minister also announced that the war in Ukraine cannot end under conditions that allow Russia to destabilize Europe further. According to her, Canada is offering to help establish a lasting peace amid US statements about whether the American military should help enforce the peace agreement.
“We want to be part of these conversations about security guarantees. We want to be part of the conversations related to involving more Canadians in the defense of Ukraine,” Jolie emphasized.
Almost simultaneously, British ministers were discussing ways to provide security guarantees without the need to deploy large numbers of troops in Ukraine.
One senior government source said that “air policing” made sense, although it would require a significant number of aircraft, as well as air defense systems to protect them.
“Dozens of Typhoons could be on standby for any Russian attacks, while a smaller peacekeeping contingent of troops from the UK and other European countries would protect the ground,” the report said.
It is through such joint efforts by allied countries to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities that victory over Russia should be achieved.
