The far-right populist party “Alternative for Germany” has designated its co-leader Alice Weidel as its “number one” for the upcoming elections, reports Spiegel.
AfD delegates must still confirm Weidel’s candidacy at the mid-January congress, but this is a formality.
However, no political force is considering a coalition with “AdN,” and it is believed that the ultra-right currently has no prospects of entering the government.
Before the previous elections, “AfD” did not nominate a candidate for chancellor.
It is important to remind that in its electoral program for the 2025 elections, “Alternative for Germany” proposes the country’s exit from the EU, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the euro currency, as well as calls for strengthening abortion laws, ending economic sanctions against Russia, and reactivating the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
