In order to reduce its dependence on Russia, Kazakhstan plans to increase oil transit through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline from 1.5 million tonnes to 20 million tonnes per year.
The increase in transit will allow Kazakhstan to reduce oil supplies through Russia by 80%.
Kazakhstan sends oil by tanker across the Caspian Sea to a pipeline that runs through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
Azerbaijan’s state oil company and KazMunayGas have signed a contract to transport 1.5 million tonnes of oil a year starting in 2023.
This was announced by Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev.
