Officially liquidated French-language “Kremlin mouthpiece”

A French commercial court has officially declared Russian propaganda channel RT France bankrupt.

Despite sanctions, a broadcasting ban and, as a result, bankruptcy, RT France continued to produce content from its bureau in Paris, which was broadcast in African French-speaking countries such as Mali and Burkina Faso.

“The court of Nanterre took the decision to put RT France in liquidation — a media that has not pleased Emmanuel Macron since its launch and, which was sanctioned by the EU a year ago as a precautionary measure because of the “conflict” in Ukraine,” Politico noted, quoting RT editor-in-chief Xenia Fedorova. She also wrote that RT France employees would be fired in the coming days.

In January 2023, the Russian propaganda TV channel RT France ceased to exist due to the blocking of its accounts. The freeze is based on the ninth round of EU sanctions against Russia. On 2 March 2022, the European Union urgently banned the broadcasting of Russian propaganda resources Sputnik and Russia Today on its territory in response to Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

As a reminder, the human rights organisation Reporters Without Borders (RSF) filed a lawsuit against the French state broadcasting regulator (ARCOM), which refused to apply any bans to the satellite operator Eutelsat, which retransmits Russian propaganda channels.
