Russian War Crimes in Ukraine: Update as of 26 May

For three months and two days in a row, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people have been resisting new and new attacks by the Russian occupiers in various directions. Ukraine appreciates all the assistance provided by international partners. The Russian occupiers are using methods that violate the rules of war. They attack civilian infrastructure, killing and injuring civilians, including children, and make actions that can have regional and international consequences. We have prepared an update of such actions of the occupiers as of May 26.

Donetsk Region

According to the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko, on May 25 the Russian invaders attacked the civilian quarters of Mariinka, Pokrovsk, Berestove, Raihorodok, Sydorove, and Lyman. At least 4 people were killed and 12 were injured.

Luhansk Region

The head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhiy Haidai reported, that on May 25 the Russian troops fired at the residential areas of Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Pryvillia, Novodruzhesk, Hirske, Novozvanivka, and Ustynivka with artillery and aircraft. At least 3 civilians were killed and 30 residential or public facilities were damaged. In particular, the centre of humanitarian aid in Lysychansk was attacked. Also, according to Serhiy Haidai, the policemen in Lysychansk are compelled to bury locals at a mass grave as the funeral services are not operable due to the constant fire.

Kharkiv Region

According to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Synehubov, on May 25 the Russian troops fired at the civilian infrastructure of northern outskirts of Kharkiv, Tsyrkuny, Chuhuiv District, and Balakliya. At least 2 people were killed and 13 were injured.

Dnipro Region

The head of the Dnipro Regional Military Administration Valentyn Reznichenko reported, that on May 25 the Russian troops shelled Velyka Kostromka and Marianske with artillery. Several residential buildings, a kindergarten and a church were damaged.

Zaporizhzhia Region

According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, on May 25 the Russian invaders shelled the civilian infrastructure in Komyshuvakha, Polohy, Novoboikivske, Novokarlivka, Orikhiv, and Huliaipole. Several residential buildings, agricultural facilities and a school were damaged due to those attacks.

Kherson Region

The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration Ihor Lahuta on May 25 reported that for more than 10 days residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson Region cannot move to the free part of Ukraine because of the restrictions by the Russian occupiers. Also, according to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, on May 25 the Russian troops fired at the civilian quarters of Kochubeivka Community. At least 2 people were injured.

Also, on May 25 the Russian dictator Putin had signed a decree that established for the residents of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions a fast-track procedure for getting a Russian passport. It is a step for the forcible granting of Russian citizenship to the population of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Two years ago the Kremlin made such a decision for the residents of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions.

Mykolaiv Region

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council Hanna Zamazeeva reported, that on May 25 the Russian invaders shelled the residential quarters of Mykolaiv and several settlements Bereznehuvate and Shyroke Communities. At least 1 civilian was killed and 14 were injured due to those attacks.
