No World Cup trophy was taken to the presidential residence in Argentina. After Lionel Messi’s team won the World Cup, there was some hope for a political truce, but it didn’t last long.
The welcome party for the World Cup champions is on December 20 at the center of Buenos Aires and its nearby highways. Over five million supporters in blue and white came to celebrate the triumph.
The fans carry on the party and singing, and players triumphantly hoist the World Cup trophy aboard a double-decker bus. But the players declined to go to the Casa Rosada, the presidential house. Despite being invited, they refused to go, LeMonde reported.
Argentina football team doesn’t support the current government
Despite the President of Argentina’s invitation, the players refused the visit. Most likely, this is due to political differences. The national team players categorically did not want to be used for any statements of the current government of Argentina from the balcony of the presidential palace.
This is the first time in the history of Argentina that the team refused to come with the World Cup to the presidential palace.
Previously, the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, is known for his pro-Russian views. Earlier, he thanked the President of the terrorist state Vladimir Putin for congratulating him on winning the 2022 World Cup.
Now famous people refuse to appear or handshake those who maintain relations with the Russian dictator Putin, who launched a war of aggression against Ukraine. Russia’s war operation killed tens of thousands of Ukrainians. It prompted the world’s condemnation of Moscow’s actions and recognition of Russia as a terrorist state.
Alberto Fernandez, the President of Argentina, hoped in vain for the players to arrive. Millions of fans gathered in a small area on the bus’s intended route to the presidential palace were denied the much-desired greeting when it was forced to turn around and abandon its whole itinerary. The car couldn’t travel there safely. The decision to change the route was made after two individuals tried to jump aboard the bus from a bridge over the highway.
In international relations, Alberto Fernandez has placed himself on the wrong side of history, maintaining ties with the bloody dictator Putin.
